The Magpies took the lead against the run of play through Jeff Hendrick in the 26th minute but Patrick Bamford levelled ten minutes before the break.

A diving header from Rodrigo then put the Whites ahead one minute after the hour but Ciaran Clark ensured Leeds conceded another goal from a set piece when heading home the equaliser just four minutes later.

Even then, Leeds still weren't done and from another rapid counter Pablo Hernandez fed Harrison who unleashed a 25-yard thunderbolt into the top right corner.

Leeds dominated the opening exchanges with Rodrigo squandering a decent chance in the 13th minute when picked out by a Jack Harrison cross only to fire over.

Only a strong save from Karl Darlow then kept out a Liam Cooper header from an 18th-minute corner.

But Newcastle finally fashioned a chance in the 24th minute with Ryan Fraser forcing Illan Meslier into a good save and two minutes later the Magpies took the lead.

Fraser was the architect, supplying a cross from the left which was flicked on by Callum Wilson to Jeff Hendrick who calmly netted with a side-footed finish.

Leeds looked to hit straight back and the Whites created a host of chances with Raphinha sending a header from an Alioski cross over the bar.

But United finally found the back of the net in the 35th minute when Patrick Bamford headed into an empty net after Rodrigo's looping header from a Raphinha cross cannoned back off the crossbar.

Leeds continued to dominate with a Raphinha shot blocked from a flowing counter and another Dallas drive also blocked but after 13 attempts at goal United were forced to enter the break level at 1-1.

Leeds survived a set piece four minutes after the break as Joelinton headed over under pressure from Kalvin Phillips.

Raphinha then fired wide from range after Leeds had survived Newcastle's shouts for a penalty for Liam Cooper's challenge on Wilson.

The Whites then went ahead one minute after the hour via a superb diving header from Rodrigo to a peach of a cross from Harrison on the left.

Only a strong save from Darlow at his near post then kept out Bamford's strike but Illan Meslier was then forced into a fine save to tip Wilson's half volley over the bar.

The subsequent corner was cleared but from the second one Ciaran Clark beat Luke Ayling to plant a header past Meslier into the bottom left corner.

Back came Leeds with a Dallas shot blocked before Hayden blazed over from range for the Magpies.

Yet Leeds went ahead for the second time with 13 minutes left when Dallas arrived at the back post to head from a Klich cross.

Raphinha then saw a shot deflected wide but Leeds bagged a fourth in the 85th minute through a rapid counter finished off by Alioski from substitute Pablo Hernandez's pass.
