A second half double from Patrick Bamford saw Leeds United complete an incredible comeback as they defeated Millwall 3-2 having trailed by two goals at the break.

Marcelo Bielsa was forced into one change as the suspended Kalvin Phillips dropped out of the side to be replaced by Gjanni Alioski.

New signing Ian Poveda was named on the bench while Jean-Kevin Augustin arrived with the Whites but was left out following his arrival on Monday.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring after just four minutes as the Whites made a nervy start giving up possession in their own half.

Shaun Hutchinson broke free of his marker Luke Ayling as a corner and powered a header home to put Bielsa's men on the back foot.

Gjanni Alioski and Mateusz Klich responded with efforts as referee Darren England felt the wrath of Elland Road following a number of mistakes.

Patrick Bamford then struck an effort straight at Lions stopper Bartosz Bialkowski inside the box.

The match official was again thrust into the limelight as Stuart Dallas saw a volley palmed wide by visiting goalkeeper only for England to point to for a goal kick to the bemusement of players and supporters.

Millwall had themselves a penalty shortly after the 20 minute mark as Alioski tumbled Jon Dadi Bodvarsson to the floor inside the box.

United were left infuriated again at the officiating as their appeals over the ball leaving the field of play in the build up fell on deaf ears as Jed Wallace fired home from the spot.

Leeds failed to find a way back into the game before the break but had their lifeline three minutes into the second half.

Ayling flicked a corner on at the near post which found Harrison who saw a shot saved on the line only for Bamford to fire home the rebound and spark the match into life.

Pablo Hernandez saw a volley tipped over the bar before Bamford flashed a header wide as the home crowd roared their side on.

It was the Spaniard who drew Leeds level with a deflected volley from outside the box on the hour mark as the visitors were left unable to live with the pace being set being outfought in every department.

Four minutes later and the comeback was complete.

Bamford again struck as he headed home an Ayling cross from close-range for his second of the night to see LS11 erupt into pandemonium on the terraces.

In a week where Leeds unveiled Jean-Kevin Augustin it was a timely reminder of the qualities United's number nine as he cupped his ears.

Leeds went in search of a fourth as Helder Costa danced into the penalty area before striking the bar and Klich should really have bagged as he fired over from underneath the goal with the net at his mercy.

Three, though, was to be enough as United celebrated what looked an unlikely victory at the break to leapfrog West Brom into top spot.
