Leeds United fell to a 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic in the Championship on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa named an unchanged line-up for the clash in LS11 with new striker Jean-Kevin Augustin failing to make the bench having arrived at the club earlier in the week.

It was the hosts who enjoyed domination in the first half as Helder Costa saw a shot saved by David Marshall after cutting inside the area before Jack Harrison crashed the post with more clever play.

The Latics, though, sent a reminder to Leeds as Sam Morsy struck an effort from distance that tested the palms of Kiko Casilla with Liam Cooper on hand to crash the rebound away from goal.

Patrick Bamford twice went close before Pablo Hernandez fired a shot from outside the box inches over the crossbar.

Harrison again had a glorious chance to break the deadlock as Bamford picked out the run of the winger at the back post but his touch took him past the frame of the goal as his back heeled flick fell wide of the mark.

It was much the same following the break as United's number 9 saw a header fly past the post.

Paul Cook's men were struggling to deal with the momentum Leeds were gathering but held firm before winning themselves a rare corner.

Joe Williams saw the set-piece deflected off Hernandez with the ball looping over Casilla and into the far corner of the net.

United were left stunned but again wasted more chances as Bamford volleyed wide with Hernandez seeing a shot blocked before substitute Tyler Roberts had the same result.

The visitors had a glorious chance to put the game to bed in the final 10 minutes as a slip from Stuart Dallas allowed Whites old boy Tom Pearce in on goal but the Nortern Irishman intercepted at the vital moment to clear.

Leeds pushed on but the Latics defended with bodies to secure just their third away victory in 39 games as West Brom hit top spot.
