The 22-year-old has been a rare bright spark in an otherwise dour season for the Blades after having arrived at Bramall Lane from Bournemouth last year.
It is expected that Leeds will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper come the end of the season, with Football Insider reporting that they are willing to offload veteran Spaniard Kiko Casilla in an effort to trim their wage bill.
But while Illan Meslier remains Marcelo Bielsa’s undisputed first choice at Elland Road, Casilla’s potential departure would likely necessitate the signing of a new understudy for the young Frenchman.
And Whelan believes that Ramsdale could be an unlikely candidate.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Ramsdale could be a possibility they’re looking at.
"There isn’t really anyone in that side bar the goalkeeper that you’d have a good look at. With that being said, is he going to get ahead of Meslier right now?
“Sheffield United are not the same team they were last season. We had opportunities we should have taken but Ramsdale had a good game.
“Performance-wise, they aren’t getting forward and there’s a lack of belief. So you’d imagine a few of their players will be leaving in the summer.”
Ramsdale put in a positive display against the Whites over the weekend, making seven saves and conceding twice from an xG of 2.51.
His performance wasn't enough to prevent the Blades from slumping to a 2-1 defeat, however.
Elsewhere, rumours persist linking Leeds with a move for Torino defender Nicolas N’Koulou.
The Cameroonian is out of contract in Turin this summer, and according to Il Corriere Granata, there are no real discussions in place for him to sign an extension.
That’s where Leeds come in, with the Whites named alongside AC Milan and Napoli as potential suitors.
The 31-year-old has worked with Marcelo Bielsa before, with the pair spending some time at Marseille together, and has amassed 72 caps for his country over the course of his career.
With such illustrious competition, however, signing him will be no easy task.
