Leeds United transfer rumours: Victor Orta monitors £62m-rated Argentine star, Whites tipped to seal £13m deal

The international break allowed Leeds United to get a well-deserved rest at the weekend but transfer speculation remained relentless as ever ahead of the summer transfer window.

Whites director of football Victor Orta is planning for a busy off-season at Elland Road after drawing up a list of potential targets.

New names continue to pop up in the transfer rumour mill – including Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are keeping tabs on the former Marseille star following an impressive season in La Liga.

Ocampos, an Argentina international, worked with Marcelo Bielsa during his time in France, where he described the 65-year-old as “unique”.

Speaking to TyC Sports about Bielsa, Ocampos said: “It was unique to be managed by Marcelo Bielsa. Even if I had not got to know him, he has received a lot of positive comments.

"One day, his assistant called me to speak to Marcelo. We chatted and that was that. I grabbed my things and left for Marseille."

The 26-year-old’s contract is said to contain a £62million release clause but the Spanish club are prepared to offload him for far cheaper due to financial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If Leeds’ interest is genuine, it is likely they’ll face competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Meanwhile, the signing of Crystal Palace full-back Patrick van Aanholt would take Leeds to the next level.

That’s according to former England defender Danny Mills as he talks up the Whites’ apparent interest in the full-back.

The Dutchman is out-of-contract at Selhurst Park this summer and was touted as a possible target by the Daily Mirror earlier this month.

Mills said: “I think he’s a good player. He’s got an awful lot of quality to offer. He’s somebody with experience, he’s been in the Premier League now for some time.

“Someone with experience that comes in and do a really good job. He’s an international.

“He adds more quality and maybe that’s the sort of signing that takes Leeds to the next level.”
