League One chairman praises Leeds United for stance in promotion bid

PETERBOROUGH UNITED owner Darragh MacAnthony has praised Leeds United for putting their "balls on the line" to seal promotion.

Championship front-runners Leeds will be declared second tier champions via the EFL's favoured unweighted points per game model should the rest of the Championship season be curtailed due to the country's fight against coronavirus.

The EFL have also said they will curtail the rest of the Championship season should 51 per cent of clubs in the second tier express a desire to do so.

Yet writing exclusively for the YEP in his weekly programme notes, Whites chief executive Angus Kinnear said United still wanted to complete their season on the pitch and the YEP understands that second-placed West Brom feel the same way.

MacAnthony's Peterborough United sit sixth in League One but Posh would miss out on the play-offs and finish seventh if English football's third tier was settled via points per game.

MacAnthony said on Twitter: "Both Leeds and WBA know they can win promotion on the field and willing to put their balls so to speak on the line. Good for them."
