'Laughable', 'Do your homework' - Leeds fans hit back at 'pub league' comments from outspoken talkSPORT pundit

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy has argued that Leeds United get “too much praise” and defend like a pub team – and fans have been quick to react on social media.

The Whites were beaten 2-1 by Everton at Elland Road on Wednesday evening – a result that leaves them 11th in the Premier League table.

But despite their relatively comfortable place in league standings, Marcelo Bielsa’s men have conceded 38 goals already this season – the second-highest tally in the top flight.

And Cundy has argued that their defensive frailties mean that the Yorkshire giants often receive an unfair amount of plaudits from his peers.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Leeds… what? They’re just a funny side, Leeds. They’ll give you opportunities. You wouldn’t ever have them on your accumulator coupon.

“I think they get too much praise.

“When they go forward that’s what you want to see, you want to see team attack. But when you see them defend, certain for the first goal, it’s like a pub league!”

@Whitey884 tweeted: “Defend like a pub team with two international centre-backs injured – wonder why? Yeah, let’s concentrate on that and not Southampton’s defence that conceded 9. When we lost 6-2 to Man United it was the end of the world. We’re a newly promoted team 15 points clear of relegation. Perspective.”

@pdukes1971 tweeted: “Leeds have four centre backs at the club, three of them have been injured for months, including our two new signings, but because Bielsa would never moan about injuries TalkSPORT pundits would never know”.

@Jamesy55 tweeted: “Could say the same about every team this season. Look how bad Everton were on Saturday”.

@MrLukeyGeorge tweeted: “Two of our international CBs are out and most of our players come from League One and the Championship, yet we sit comfortably in mid-table. That's why we get the praise.”

@curran_steve tweeted: “I love how we play at the moment… I love that we go for it and are always on the font foot. How we defend will improve in time and with better signings, as will our attacking still! 11th in the Premier League on 29 points after 21 games?!? I’ll take that all day long”.

@Jtsuperleeds tweeted: “It's laughable. We are a newly promoted team playing some of the most entertaining attacking football in the Premier League. Our two international CB signings are both injured, we've had several different pairings, and we are playing without a natural left back. We're Leeds and proud”.

@Soopario tweeted: “Do your home work. We spent £40 million on defenders in the summer who aren't playing.”

@Paul_Liley tweeted: “What do you want? A league full of Burnleys? Why not praise the approach? Leeds are new to the premiership, basically playing with the side that won the championship and still taking the game to a lot of established sides. #BielsaBall”

@ConnorMOT92 tweeted: “This is literally embarrassing”.

@HxrryLUFC tweeted: “And that pub league defending team are only four points behind Chelsea.”
