Marcelo Bielsa admitted that Leeds United's 1-1 draw with West Brom could've gone either way at the Hawthorns.

The Whites earned a hard-fought point against the Baggies on New Year's Day with the pair unable to be separated in the table and at the full-time whistle.

Leeds entered the fixture top of the Championship on goal difference alone and left the Midlands in the same position with a nine-point cushion over third place.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for the hosts inside two minutes following a scramble from a corner before a deflected Patrick Bamford effort off the West Brom defender levelled things up after the half-time break.

Bielsa, though, reflected on point earned in an open contest between the top two.

"We should have won the match, but also we could have lost the match," Bielsa said.

"How we managed the game was very good, but there were chances in both boxes. Maybe our chances were a little more possible and after we built some situations that we couldn’t finish in a chance."

The introduction of top scorer Bamford proved pivotal as the striker played a key role in hauling United level after replacing Eddie Nketiah at the break.

The Argentine revealed afterwards that the Arsenal loanee has been recalled by his parent club following a lack of game time after just two starts since joining on loan in the summer.

Asked about the performance from his front men, Bielsa added: "Nketiah eroded the centre-backs and Bamford took advantage that the centre-backs were exhausted due to the work of Nketiah.

"Also, Bamford, for his physical characteristics, he was in better condition to face those kind of defenders."
