Harvey Sharman, a respected member of United’s backroom team who has occupied his role for the past eight years, will quit Elland Road next month to join the Nationals’ medical staff.
Sharman has agreed to take up the position of executive director of medical services in Washington in a surprise move which will rob Leeds of their long standing physio.
Sharman was named as head physio in 2007 after his predecessor, Dave Hancock, left United to join Chelsea’s medical staff.
Hancock later relocated to America work with the New York Knicks basketball team.
Sharman previously acted as assistant physio having joined United in 2001.
Leeds confirmed tonight that Sharman would remain at Elland Road in the short term before officially parting company with the club before Christmas.
United are yet to confirm his replacement and Sharman’s assistant, Marc Czuczman, announced last night that he had parted company with Leeds with immediate effect.
