The 20-year-old has been missing from first team action since October 1 after he picked up a quad issue in the Whites 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Shackleton made an initial comeback later in the month for the development side against Burnley at Elland Road before picking up another knock which left him sidelined once again.

The United academy graduate saw his first competitive minutes in over a month at the DW stadium as he aims to hand Marcelo Bielsa's side a boost ahead of the busy festive period.

Leeds travel to Reading in Championship action on Tuesday evening and look set to name the same squad which secured a late 2-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Club captain Liam Cooper is fighting to regain a starting spot at the Madejski with Gaetano Berardi expected to drop to the bench should he do so.
