The 28-year-old sealed his move to Elland Road this afternoon after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Sharp - a player linked repeatedly with Leeds over the years - has joined United after two and half years at St Mary’s and becomes the club’s ninth new signing of the summer.

Leeds have also tied up a deal to take Giuseppe Bellusci on a season-long loan from Catania after the defender came through a medical earlier today.

Southampton said Leeds had paid an undisclosed fee for Sharp, though the two clubs have effectively reached an agreement which pays up the remaining year of his contract at St Mary’s.

The striker is due to train with United’s squad for the first time tomorrow (Aug 14) and is in line to make his debut in Saturday’s Championship clash with Middlesbrough.

Bellusci will also be available this weekend provided his international clearance arrives in time.

Leeds remain on course to complete a third signing in 24 hours with Liam Cooper in the process of taking a medical and discussing personal terms.

Leeds have struck a deal to sign the centre-back from Chesterfield for an initial fee of around £600,000.
