THE last-minute strike that sealed Leeds United victory at Luton Town has been confirmed as an own goal by the EFL's Dubious Goals Committee and not a Patrick Bamford winner.

Whites striker Bamford was adamant he had got his studs to Mateusz Klich's right-flank delivery before Luton defender Matthew Pearson's outstretched leg took the ball past Hatters keeper James Shea to give the Whites all three points.

However, the EFL's Dubious Goals Committee have assessed the striker and credited the effort as an own goal.

Their decision leaves Bamford on six goals for the season and not seven as the striker had hoped.

Bamford said after Saturday's winning goal: "I know it sounds vague but I stood across the front and I think I actually got my studs on it.

“I didn’t have a clue where it went so I didn’t have a clue it had gone in until I looked up and I thought there’s ‘no chance I’m letting them think it was an own goal!’ I’m running off claiming it.

“I don’t know whether it was heading towards goal but I got a nick on it. As a striker you claim them."
