Cautious note but Gjanni Alioski embracing belief that Leeds United are finally heading for the Premier League

GJANNI ALIOSKI says Leeds United's squad fully believe they will seal promotion next May but is warning about the dangers of merely expecting two more wins from this week's back-to-back home games.

Marcelo Bielsa's second-placed Whites have opened up an eight-point gap to the teams outside of the Championship's automatic promotion spots with Saturday's 2-0 triumph at Huddersfield Town becoming United's sixth league win in a row.

Just three days on, United will be straight back to action at home to 12th-placed Hull City tonight with Leeds facing two games at Elland Road in five days with Cardiff City also travelling to Yorkshire this weekend for a Saturday 3pm kick-off.

Despite last season's late collapse to finish third, Leeds are now no bigger than 1-7 to finally seal a return to the Premier League with an automatic promotion place and Alioski says his squad shares the current optimism sweeping the city and United's fans.

Yet the North Macedonian international says there will be nothing easy about chalking up a seventh and potentially eighth straight win this week with the 27-year-old full of respect for United's next two visitors Hull and Cardiff

The Tigers caused a surprise at Elland Road last December with a 2-0 victory that brought an abrupt end to United's run of seven straight wins.

Sizing up this week's two home games, Alioski told the YEP: "I think Marcelo is going to speak with us about these games because now everyone will expect us to win these two home games. Of course we want to do that but it's hard.

“It's been hard to win six games in a row but that's what the coach has been working on with us.

"We're going to try to do everything we can to beat Hull City and Cardiff but we need to concentrate first on Hull City because we know what happened last year.

“We want to keep winning at home especially. We're going to work hard and we don't have a lot of time."

Reflecting on the chants in the terraces of the Whites are going up, Alioski said: "It's good that they believe because we believe also.

"We need to believe together, the supporters, the team.

"I think the time will come that we can speak about going up but it's too early.

"The season is still long, we are in December, it's cold and to not get injured is more important."
