Adryan potential has Leeds caretaker Redfearn excited

LEEDS UNITED caretaker head coach Neil Redfearn has hailed the ‘massive potential’ of Brazilian play-maker Adryan, who made his first appearance in Monday’s development squad clash with Ipswich.

Redfearn takes charge of Saturday’s televised game at Birmingham City, with owner Massimo Cellino, due to return to the UK from the US today, having hinted that he is a strong contender to take over permanently.

Cellino has said he currently ‘can’t see anyone better’ than Redfearn to look after the team with his coach search wide open.

For his part, Redfearn is not getting side-tracked by talk over his future and is purely focusing on preparations for the weekend.

Adryan, signed on a season-long loan from Flamengo and dubbed “the New Kaka” in his homeland, boosted his chances of weekend involvement by playing 75 minutes on Monday and Redfearn says he caught the eye.

He said: “He showed some great touches; there were six or seven times when he got caught in tight situations and he got himself out of trouble.

“It was good for him to play with some of our good young players and let him get a feel for it rather than just throwing him in.

“He’s a lovely kid and he can’t do enough for you. He loves his games and trains hard and it was a good work-out for him.

“He has got massive potential, although he is a young lad. But we can use him as we need to.”

United are waiting on receiving international clearance before seeing if Brian Montenegro and Dario Del Fabro can be involved at the weekend, but like with Adryan, Redfearn has been pleased with their integration.

He added: “They have fitted in really well. Del Fabro is a footballing centre-half who is comfortable on the ball and has defensive strengths and is good in the air.

“Montenegro plays off the shoulder and has a bit of pace with an eye for goal. They are additions who will get better.”
