'Put that right' - Angus Kinnear makes Premier League sense of humour quip as Leeds United CEO eyes Manchester United opener

ANGUS Kinnear made a quip about the Premier League's sense of humour before eyeing Leeds United's opening fixture at Manchester United as a chance to put things right.

The Premier League unveiled their fixtures for the 2021-22 season on Wednesday morning and Leeds will take on their arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in their first game over the weekend of August 14.

Marcelo Bielsa's Whites were blitzed 6-2 at the Red Devils last December but bounced back strongly to record a ninth-placed finish and Kinnear says Bielsa's Whites will be relishing the opportunity to make amends.

"I think it proves that the fixture computer is definitely a myth and that someone at Premier League HQ has a sense of humour," said Whites CEO Kinnear to BBC Radio Leeds.

"But it's a great game to start with.

"It's one of the few performances last season where we didn't do ourselves justice I don't think so I am sure Marcelo and the boys are going to be delighted to have that up as a first crack and put that right."

Leeds will follow the opening weekend fixture at Old Trafford with a home clash against Everton before a trip to Burnley concludes the opening month of the season.

September then starts with a home clash against Liverpool.

Reflecting on the opening fixtures as a whole, Kinnear reasoned: "What we learnt last season was that when we are on our game we don't have to fear anybody but when you are not on your game in the Premier League then you get punished so actually I look at the fixtures and I view them all equally which I think is the same as Marcelo does.

"It's that the big games are there to be won and the games which people see as smaller are just as tricky if you get them wrong.

"Last season we lost to Brighton twice, we lost to Wolves twice, we lost to West Ham twice but enjoyed some really great results against some of the top teams so I think Marcelo will go into each game with his usual diligence and he believes they are all equally challenging."
