Kemar Roofe on his love for Leeds United and why he has no regrets over Anderlecht move

Kemar Roofe says he still holds a very special place in his heart for Leeds United following his move to Anderlecht last summer.

The former Whites striker made 114 appearances for the club in total, scoring 32 goals in the process.

The West Bromwich Albion academy graduate played a key role in last season's debut campaign under Marcelo Bielsa as he scored 15 goals in Championship action before play-off defeat last May.

Roofe departed West Yorkshire in early August after entering the final year of his contract which brought a three-year spell in LS11 to a close having joined from Oxford United in 2016.

The 27-year-old, though, has admitted that despite his switch to Belgium he still keeps a close eye on his former side.

"For me, all the teams I’ve played at, I’ve still got a piece of them in my heart,” said Roofe.

"They all mean something to me, especially Leeds.

"They are a massive club and I still have a lot of friends there. I still watch them every week and see how they are doing.

"The most important thing is to stay safe and stay at home and take all the correct steps to not get the virus and not spread it.

"It’s more important than football. Hopefully the season will continue again soon and Leeds will be promoted."

Roofe has suffered with a number of injuries since joining the Belgian Pro League, but has still managed a prolific strike rate bagging six times in 13 league games.

"No regrets," he added over the transfer.

"For me it’s always a new challenge to be able to play.

"You don’t always get the chance to play abroad in a different country for a different team and in a different competition.

"The thought of being able to play in Europe – the Champions League and Europa League – is on my list of dream things to do.

"I think that was a real ambition of mine."
