Jermaine Beckford tells Leeds United to make two January transfer window decisions
A former Leeds United striker has handed some transfer advice to Daniel Farke and the Elland Road hierarchy.
Leeds United hero Jermaine Beckford has told his old club where they must improve their squad in the January transfer window if they are to preserve their Premier League status this season.
The Whites were heavily active during the summer transfer window as a spend of around £100m saw the likes of Sean Longstaff, Noah Okafor and Anton Stach all arrive at Elland Road as Daniel Farke prepared his squad for their return to the top flight following last season’s Championship title-winning exploits.
With a largely new look starting lineup, finding consistency and momentum has proven difficult and the Whites are currently sitting in the relegation zone as they prepare for Wednesday night’s home clash with in-form Chelsea. That game will kickstart a challenging December fixture list that will precede the January transfer window and there are already strong suggestions the Elland Road hierarchy are ready to strengthen the squad in a bid to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
There have been reports claiming the Whites will look to add a winger and an attacking midfielder to Farke’s squad in the new year amid speculation over the former Norwich City manager’s long-term future at the club. However, former Whites striker Beckford are stressed there are two other areas that must be prioritised during the transfer window after watching his old club fall to a 3-2 defeat at title contenders Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
Improve

Speaking on talkSPORT, Beckford said: “As you know, every single window you’re looking to improve the team, regardless of where it is. The biggest issue at the moment is defensively, conceding too many goals, and offensively, not scoring enough goals. So naturally you’re going to have to say we want to look at strengthening those two areas. But I touch on the City game, if Leeds United are able to play that formation, 3-5-2, and go a little bit more direct, I do think we will see the best of the two boys up top especially because they did compliment each other really, really well. It’s much easier when you’re playing two up top when one of them is winning all of the flick ons and the other one is gambling in behind.”
