Jean-Kevin Augustin sends message to Leeds United fans as he seals Nantes move

Former Leeds United loanee Jean-Kevin Augustin has completed a move to Ligue 1 side Nantes following a summer of uncertainty.

The 23-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a two-year deal in France after the threat of a legal dispute between the Whites and RB Leipzig over his playing rights.

Augustin joined the Elland Road ranks in January on a loan deal from the Bundesliga outfit with an obligation to buy should Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Paris Saint-Germain academy product failed to make a serious impact in West Yorkshire, struggling with a calf injury and the fitness demands required by Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine said it was the most 'convenient' thing that Augustin returned to his parent club following the season's resumption in June amid a coronavirus pandemic that left United in a dispute over the transfer.

Leipzig's commercial sporting director Florian Scholz just last month threatened legal action against Leeds for not taking up the deal for the forward after promotion was secure.

Augustin, though, has now made the move to Nantes after reports emerged in France on Monday suggesting he was a free agent.

The striker also took to social media to says his goodbyes to the Elland Road club.

He wrote: "Just a quick message to thank all the Leeds United fans that have been supporting me since day one.

"I wish the club to do well and keep on shining in the Premier League."
