Jean-Kevin Augustin says he has learned from his mistakes as he attempts to put his Leeds United nightmare behind him with Nantes.

The 23-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a deal with the French outfit following a summer of uncertainty over his playing future.

Augustin joined the Elland Road ranks in January on a loan deal from RB Leipzig with an obligation to buy included in the transfer should Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Paris Saint-Germain academy product failed to make a serious impact in West Yorkshire, struggling with a calf injury and the fitness demands required by Marcelo Bielsa before returning to the German giants.

The forward has now made the switch to Ligue 1, looking for a fresh start after his career briefly stagnated in West Yorkshire last term.

"I think I was young, I made a lot of mistakes," Augustin told the French media over his recent struggles in Leeds and beforehand.

"Today I'm a different man and I learned from my mistakes. I mustn't make them anymore.

"The most important thing for me was to find football, fun and a good team to make a full season. I found it: it's at Nantes. I am very happy to be here.

"You all know that I was in a special situation. I preferred to be a free agent, to get off on the right foot.

"I chose Nantes because there was a coach who wanted me for quite a long time, who knows me well.

"I also know the team quite well since there are players with whom I played in the French team."

Augustin has spent time recently in Germany with Leipzig before brief loan spells with Monaco and Leeds amid a lack of game time.

"All the teams are different," he added over his career experiences.

"In Leipzig, we really ask for a lot of pressing. I have done several championships: England, Germany... I prefer to focus on the present: Nantes.

"I must respond to what the coach asks me."

Asked what he now wanted to show on the pitch after a long time away, he said: "That I am a good football player and that I have good behaviour.

"I want to show the 'good' Jean-Kevin Augustin.

"I think I can bring a lot of depth to the game, keep the ball with my back to the goal and especially in terms of the goals.

"Playing 90 minutes now is complicated. I've been training for quite a few months with a physical trainer.

"I do two sessions a day. I'm not 'on the street', but it's been a long time since I last trained with a group.

"I was lucky to arrive during the break. I have a good week ahead of me. I will do what is necessary to be ready, quickly."

Augustin's playing future on the pitch has now been resolved, but questions remain off it over the deal between Leipzig and the Whites.

The Bundesliga club's commercial director of sport Florian Scholz last month threatened legal action against the Elland Road club for not honouring their contract.

This week he reiterated his comments claiming that Leipzig would seek help from FIFA over what they believe are lost funds.
