Leeds-born Shackleton joined the Whites at the age of just seven with the youngster progressing his way through the Academy and into the first team.

Shackleton was then handed his Leeds debut by head coach Marcelo Bielsa in August 2018 by coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Mateusz Klich in the 4-1 romp at Championship hosts Derby County.

The midfielder then made his first Whites start three days later in the 2-1 win at home to Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup and a full league debut arrived one week later as Shackleton started in the 2-2 draw at Swansea City.

After making 24 appearances in his breakthrough season, Shackleton then made another 24 outings in the 2019-20 campaign, including 17 league appearances and five league starts as his boyhood club stormed to promotion to the Premier League as champions.

After negotiating a frustrating spell due to injuries, Shackleton ended the season particularly impressively with the 20-year-old netting his first senior goal in last month's 3-1 victory at Derby County in United's first game as newly-crowned champions.

Shackleton then made it two in two when also netting in the season finale at home to Charlton Athletic which ended in a 4-0 victory.

Having now made a total of 48 appearances for the club, Shackleton now becomes the latest Whites youngster to commit his future to the club, following on from Polish teen Mateusz Bogusz signing a new three-year deal on Tuesday.

Shackleton has been deployed as both a right wing back and centre midfielder by Bielsa and the Whites youngster has already been capped at England youth level having represented the country's under-20s.

The Whites Academy graduate, who will not turn 21 until October, has also already been studying for his coaching badges.

Leeds has a fantastic story to tell - and the Yorkshire Evening Post has been rooted firmly at the heart of telling the stories of our city since 1890.
