Jamie Redknapp mulls over 'paceless' Newcastle United's prospects against 'bang out of form' Leeds United

Redknapp watched from the Sky Sports studios as fifth-bottom Newcastle suffered a fourth consecutive league defeat with Saturday night's 2-0 reverse at Aston Villa which led to Magpies fans calling for boss Steve Bruce to be sacked.

Newcastle will now provide Leeds' next opponents in Tuesday's clash on Tyneside which Marcelo Bielsa's 12th-placed Whites are approaching following three-straight losses in league and cup and five league defeats from their last eight.

Redknapp has questioned whether the Magpies might subsequently be able to bounce back against Leeds though says Newcastle have so many problems it is hard to know where to start, even with star man Allan Saint-Maximin back from injury and the effects of Covid-19.

"Paceless," said Redknapp about Newcastle.

"Not an ounce of pace in that team.

"Who is going to run past anyone? (Miguel) Almiron drops his shoulder every now and again.

"There's not a bit of pace in that team and when you want something to happen, I suppose that's why you are hoping that Saint-Maximin can do it.

"They are playing against a Leeds side that are bang out of form, maybe they can turn it around in that game?

"But it's tough.

"They are in a real predicament in so many places it's impossible to nail one thing on and say 'oh it's Steve Bruce because they could get rid of Steve Bruce, very easily, but it won't change.

"Mark my words, it will still be the same football.

"Nothing can change.

"It might give the players a bit of a lift for a while but unless they bring in a load of new players and make wholesale changes and until they get a proper takeover it's going to be the same problems."
