Jack Harrison hails Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa's 'unorthodox' coaching methods

Manchester City winger Harrison is back at Leeds for a third season-long loan with the 23-year-old having now amassed 93 appearances under United's Argentinian head coach.

The Whites loanee admits he knew little about Bielsa's style of coaching upon initially joining the club on a first season-long loan back in July 2018 just six months after signing for Manchester City from New York City and then being loaned to Middlesbrough.

Harrison says he then heard about Bielsa's nickcame of 'El Loco' - the 'crazy one' - and three years later the winger says Bielsa's reputation for working his players hard is well founded.

Yet Harrison says Bielsa's unusual methods are clearly being backed up by results on the pitch with United now back in the Premier League for the first time in 16 years having stormed to promotion in the Argentinian's second season in charge as Championship champions.

"I hadn't heard anything about Marcelo Bielsa about his coaching style or anything like that," said Harrison, recalling his first joining Leeds in a feature with the BBC.

"It wasn't until I soon came to know his nickname, El Loco, which means the crazy one.

"Leeds United were outside of the Premier League for 16 years and Marcelo was brought in to get them back to the promised land and the Premier League.

"He has this reputation of making his players work hard and he demands a lot.

"His methods are very different and quite unorthodox but they get results and we know as a team it's good for us."

Reflecting on the moment when United finally sealed promotion to the Premier League, Harrison smiled: "The day we won everything went crazy.

"Everyone was buzzing, excited, there was champagne everywhere there were chairs being flown about, it was a really nice moment for me, it was almost like a moment of relief."
