Jack Charlton's funeral cortege to pass through former Leeds United legend's childhood hometown

United's record appearance holder passed away on July 10 aged 85 following a long-term illness with tributes pouring in from across the globe since Charlton's death.
Charlton's funeral will take place on Tuesday and Northumberland County Council have been working with the Charlton family and Northumbria Police to ensure the funeral cortege passes through the legendary former footballer's hometown as smoothly and safely as possible.

Hide AdThe funeral cortege is planned to take place between 10.30am and 11.15am.


A statement from Northumberland County Council said: "If you’re planning to watch the Jack Charlton funeral cortege tomorrow (21/7), please stay safe.
"Try to keep a 2m social distance from people outside your household and maintain good hand hygiene. Face coverings should also be worn."
Former England World Cup winner and later Republic manager Charlton will be remembered on both sides of the Irish Sea and the Football Association of Ireland are calling on all Republic fans to wear green in his memory.

Hide AdCharlton led the Republic of Ireland to the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.
The FAI have also asked all Irish radio stations to play 'Put 'Em Under Pressure' at 12.30pm to coincide with the funeral service.
Almost 20,000 fans have now signed the FAI's virtual Book of Condolences.
