Marcelo Bielsa's newly-promoted Whites are now mathematically safe from relegation and sit tenth in the table on 46 points.

The Whites would drop to 11th if Aston Villa win their game in hand but Meslier says Leeds are looking up and that a minimum of a top-half finish is a "good target" for Bielsa's Whites.

Leeds are only behind ninth-placed Arsenal on goal difference whilst United are three points adrift of eighth-placed Everton who have played one game less.

There is a seven-point gap to both sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur - who have played one game more - and also seventh-placed Liverpool whom Leeds held to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Monday night.

The draw took United's unbeaten run to five games ahead of Sunday's clash against arch rivals Manchester United at Elland Road.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are riding high in second place but Leeds are continuing with an ambitious mentality for their final six games and targeting maximum points.

Asked about United's target for the remainder of the campaign, Meslier told LUTV: "For the rest of the season it's finishing in the first part of the table.

"If we can finish tenth or ninth...it's possible and it's good because we arrived from the Championship and I think it's a good target for us.

"We want to win the maximum number of games and to play well and to finish as high as possible."
