'It's a huge weight off' - Tyler Roberts reflects on first Premier League goal for Leeds United

Marcelo Bielsa s side recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night in top flight action.

United travelled to St Mary's in the knowledge that securing three points would seal a 10th away win of the campaign and secure a top half finish in the standings.

With the win Leeds moved into eighth position in the table with just one game left to play of their debut term in the Premier League for 16 years.

The Whites got off to sluggish start on the south coast as Ralph Hasenhuttl forced Kiko Casilla into early saves.

The goalkeeper was one of three changes made by Bielsa with Liam Cooper and Rodrigo also starting against the Saints.

Hosts skipper James Ward-Prowse struck the bar from a free-kick but it was Patrick Bamford who opened the scoring in the second half to silence the home crowd.

United's No 9 had just minutes earlier opted to stay on his feet under a challenge from stopper Alex McCarthy.

Bamford, though, had the last laugh to prod home from a tight angle through the goalkeeper's legs after a brilliant ball from Rodrigo.

Bielsa's men then added a second deep into added time through Roberts as Leeds broke at pace from a Southampton set-piece.

It was the 22-year-old's first goal of the season after a campaign packed with close calls and VAR intervention.

Roberts celebrated fiercely as did his head coach when his low strike hit the back of the net to earn the spoils.

"It's something that I have obviously be striving towards," Roberts reflected afterwards at St Mary's.

"I've been frustrated that it hasn't come, so it's a big weight off my shoulders. The emotions came out [in the celebrations]. I've been getting in the finishing practice so I made sure when I got to the chance I was ready for it."

Bielsa added on the goal post-match: "Very happy. Truly, I am very happy for Tyler."
