Patrick Bamford was left pleased by Leeds United's battling 1-0 win over Burnley on Sunday, believing it can add to the Whites mental toughness going forward.

Marcelo Bielsa's outfit returned to winning ways in the Premier League as Bamford gave United all three points from the penalty spot.

United's number nine made it 10 goals in 15 top flight games this season at Elland Road, converting from 12 yards past visiting goalkeeper Nick Pope - who had earlier taken the striker out after just four minutes on the clock.

The Clarets saw an Ashley Barnes strike chalked off with the whistle already blown from a free-kick before Sean Dyche's men bombarded the Leeds box in the second half looking for a leveller.

Illan Meslier was forced to catch and punch on a number of occasions with Bielsa's defence under increasing pressure.

United, though, held on in LS11 as they showed a different side to their game following recent criticism, securing a fifth clean sheet of the campaign.

Bamford was also suitably impressed by his side's ability to adapt to keep out Burnley in circumstances they aren't accustomed to.

"Sometimes with a 1-0 win you get a good feeling because you have had to grind it out and that was the case in the second half," Bamford said post-match.

"I thought they [Burnley] were brilliant in the way they played. Their style is difficult to play against, the ball is barely on the floor, but it's brilliant for us to play against that.

"It shows us what we need to do to see out a game and gives us that mental toughness. If we didn't fight like we did then we wouldn't have got three points so it was a learning experience."

Asked about Burnley's complaints over a disallowed goal, he said: "There were lots of fouls that could've gone either way for both teams.

"As a team they [Burnley] were screaming for everything and that influences a referee, sometimes not in a positive way.

"I thought the referee did his job and I thought he had an alright game."
