Patrick Bamford believes Leeds United's win over Leicester City shows Marcelo Bielsa's side can compete with the Premier League's top six.

The newly-promoted Whites claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over the third-placed Foxes on Sunday afternoon at the King Power stadium.

Leeds fell behind after a 13th minute opener from Harvey Barnes but goals from Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison saw Leeds return to West Yorkshire with all three points.

Ahead of kick-off Bielsa's men had claimed just one point - which came against Manchester City at Elland Road - against the top flight's so called established teams.

Although Bamford insists Leeds are keeping their feet on the ground during their first season back in the Premier League, United's number nine says the win over Leicester shows they are more than capable of getting results.

"It was a hard game, we knew from the home leg they’re a top team," Bamford reflected post-match.

"You can see by their position in the league. We knew we had to concentrate and really fight for it.

"At Liverpool we came very close [to getting a point], we got a point at Manchester City - but at Man United and Tottenham we were off it.

"Today we showed that we can compete [with the top teams]. To get the three points is a great achievement. It gives the boys confidence.

"We’re a strong group and we’ve added the lads in the summer. Everyone’s got their feet on the ground, [there are] no superstars.

"The boys should be very proud of themselves."

Bamford bagged a stunning goal 20 minutes from time to make it 11 for the season as he rifled a shot into the top corner of the net to score his first goal in four outings.

The striker, though, earned plaudits for his unselfish play in setting up winger Jack Harrison - his second assist of the afternoon - in the closing stages after an incisive breakaway from the visitors.

"I’d love to say I don’t think about it but all strikers do," Bamford said of his recent run without a goal.

"In the last couple games I’ve been a little bit off it and it’s always nice to get a goal. It was nice to get the assists too.

"I think a lot of the boys expected me to shoot on the last one but Jack had it on a plate so I couldn’t shoot."

He laughed: "I’ve got myself in my own fantasy team! If I shoot there and I miss it’s not worth it, so for the team we needed that extra comfort."
