Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford believes VAR needs 'clearing up' after two run-ins with the technology in the top flight this season.

The Whites forward bagged his 13th Premier League goal of the campaign against Southampton in midweek at Elland Road.

Bamford has seen two goals chalked off thanks to the use of VAR this season - with the first coming at Crystal Palace in November before a second at Wolves last week.

Both decisions were marginal - while the goal at Selhurst Park was initially given but his strike at Molineux wasn't.

United's number nine has been critical of both decisions, which required the use of lines to rule them out.

Bamford hit out at the use of technology in the capital post-match before taking to social media after defeat at Wolves and has now explained his reasoning for doing so.

"If you're going to spend so much money on VAR and try to put it in to help the game, then you've got to be 100 per cent about every decision that goes to VAR," Bamford told the Official Leeds United podcast.

“Looking at mine at Wolves, the lineo gives it offside, you go to VAR and have a look at it and the line drawn to my knee seems to be diagonal, and the line drawn to the guy’s heel seems to be straight down.

“There’s no consistency and how can you be 100 per cent certain? The camera angle was not parallel to where I was on the pitch, it’s looking back.

“I was flicking through twitter trying to find a still of the image and I saw one guy tweet if you are fouled outside the penalty box, and your feet are outside the penalty box, but your knee is inside, it’s not a penalty, it’s a free-kick.

“So if your feet are behind the offside line, then surely you should use the same rule? It needs clearing up.

"It's not just happened to me, it's happened to loads of strikers over the course of the season. They must be just as frustrated as I am.

"It's been brought in to try and make the game better but everyone wants to see goals. I think more than anything it is denying more goals than giving them."
