Rumours that the away kit for the 2022/2023 would revisit the bright yellow colourway not used since 2019 were met with great excitement by Whites supporters.

The adidas release has delivered, but not in the way that fans were expecting – as the shirt Leeds will be wearing on the road puts a modern twist on a beloved colour scheme.

United will wear their new away kit for the first time against Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday August 13. Until then, supporters have put their imagination to good use while giving their verdict:

@SimonFWilson1: It looks like someone put a new pair of jeans in with a light wash.

@G_Dickson9: If you’re going to a fancy dress as a block of Stilton, I guess it’s great.

@Gingerbaws: Reminds me of the time my dad's liver failed...the colour of it and how sad I felt when looking at it.

@N65590035N: Challenge: Hand a blind man a paintbrush, spin him round 50 times and ask him to design a shirt.

@Morleywhites: Getting vibes of that Only Fools & Horses episode, where Dell paints the Chinese in luminous yellow paint.

@Cooke_MJ: When you order a yellow and blue away shirt from Wish.

@MickLeeds23: Stilton, go down well in Cheese Wedge.

@Dan_Pickard: Blueberry cheesecake. It’s hideous.

@Richleeds64: Horrendous, looks like a painters t-shirt after a week at work…

@RSTJA: It’s like someone left a blue biro in the wash when they were washing the home kit.

@RobertHaden4: Is it to distract the opposition?

@D75Longie: Mmmmmm not sure, not sure if tie dye is back in, or they have just attached it to a wall and used it as a paintball target... Not feeling the love for it to be honest.

Some love it, some hate it – everyone had something to say about adidas’ latest kit offering:

@EllandDuck: I actually quite like it. Was hoping for something more traditional, but it's an interesting twist.

@BriBriCanavan: Why do they always go for highlighter yellow?

@Tommy_Pouncey: A shirt made exclusively to wear at festivals whilst drinking dark fruits.

@AdamOzzy: At least we can sing ‘we glow in the dark’ again.

@Andrewrp240480: Won't get lost in the dark.

@MrPMHarrison: Didn't like it at first. But it's grown on me. Home kit's classic. This is a bit random. That's fine.

@AllLoveLeeds: I love it!!!! Yellow and blue, 90’s rave tie dye! ‍Don’t know why but I just love this! ‍I’m surprised at myself!

@BasicallyATuna: We should have been more specific when we asked for a blue and yellow shirt. @B_JMills: I thought last year’s home and third kits were some of the worst in recent years, this one is worse than both of those by a country mile!

@Gloswhite: It's a no for me...*BUT* I'm in my 40s...suspect the yoofs will love it and it'll sell well in which case job done.

@ThomasLeaning: I absolutely love it. Glad they’re not sticking with the boring home white, away yellow and third blue kit every bloody season. Gets so repetitive.

@HarisGTJ: I actually like it, appreciate I'm in the minority and the plain yellow is what was desired but it's unique and striking.

@LUFCStew: Why can’t we just have a plain yellow away kit?

@GaryBlower: I absolutely love it. Yellow away kit. Something modern and different. Beats the slightly dull same old home shirt.
