Ian Wright has called on Leeds United's supporters to breed positivity towards Marcelo Bielsa's senior side at Elland Road following their recent slump.

The Whites have won just one of their last seven Championship outings, with the controversial 1-0 loss at Queens Park Rangers last weekend handing Leeds back-to-back defeats for the first time this season in league action.

Despite a difficult run of form, Bielsa's outfit remain in the thick of the Premier League promotion race holding the final automatic position in second with a four point advantage over third-placed Fulham.

Nottingham Forest, though, could cut the gap to just two points on Wednesday evening with a victory over Reading at the City Ground.

Arsenal legend Wright has been keeping a close eye on proceedings in West Yorkshire this season, having seen Gunners academy product Eddie Nketiah spend the first half of the campaign on loan in LS11.

The 56-year-old has now called on the club's fan base to start breeding positivity to help bring the players out of their recent slump.

"As difficult as it is, I was watching the game the other day, the play up to the point of finishing is brilliant and yes, it's blatantly obvious they do need a striker," Wright told Radio 5Live.

"At the same time, this is the time for Leeds fans, you've got to be more supportive of those guys.

"They're feeling it, they're feeling it from you as well and they've got to start channelling some positivity to those guys, otherwise it's going to happen.

"They're nervous. They're not positive and they need to stop being so toxic towards them."

United are still working hard to solve the absence of Nketiah - a player Wright has mentored - after his loan deal ended prematurely over a lack of playing time under Bielsa earlier this month.

Wright added: "[Che] Adams at Southampton they've been linked with him. Billy Sharp as well. Someone like Andre Gray, will he be the one?

"I've seen some of his finishing and going into a place like Leeds, and them needing someone who is going to be a goalscorer, to finish maybe one chance, and maybe he could be that guy.

"He scored a lot of goals at Burnley, he's not been so prolific at Watford.

"I don't know if he might be the answer, I would love him to be but I'm not sure he'll be the one.

"Dwight Gayle would be perfect for Leeds."
