The Northern Irish international, capped once at senior level, becomes the second Whites youngster to head out into the EFL for a loan spell this week after Jordan Stevens' move to Swindon Town.

Earlier this summer McCalmont had a possible loan move to UD Ibiza on the table but will now continue his development under former Leeds man Harry Kewell at Boundary Park.

They face Crawley Town tomorrow in League Two and 20-year-old McCalmont will be in line for a debut.

He signed a new four-year deal with Leeds in August but made it clear he would like to go out on loan to get match minutes in senior football.

"I wanted to come here to prove myself and ultimately do well for the team," he said.

"I'm at that age now where I want to experience more senior football as it'll help a lot in my career going forwards and this is a great opportunity for me to put some good performances in."

Robbie Gotts could be next to follow him out of Elland Road for a temporary stint elsewhere, with Hull City believed to be keen on the versatile midfielder.
