The Whites have impressed on their long-awaited return to the top flight this term, and are currently 11th in the table.

Established outfits like Arsenal, Wolves, and Crystal Palace are the sides nearest to them in the battle for a spot in the top half, and the former Gunners striker has suggested that it would be a sizeable achievement for Marcelo Bielsa’s men to pip them all to 10th place.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: “It would be huge. Huge.

"I think it would be for any other newly-promoted side, and other sides have done it of course, but what’s impressive about Leeds is that way that they’ve gone at it full throttle.

"They’ve not compromised their principles one little bit. The games have been open – the Leeds games have had more goals in than any other, haven’t they?

"So entertaining to watch. Sometimes they’ll get a thumping, other times they’ll give the opposition one.

"Absolutely fascinating to watch, and results speak louder than anything. The position they are in the table, fantastic.”

Former Elland Road stopper Rob Green echoed Smith’s sentiment on Sky’s Monday Night Football.

He said: “They’d snap your hands off for it.

"They’ve gone into it, the unknown as to how their style of football would step into the Premier League.

"They haven’t changed that system from the Championship, and they’ve gone into every game with no fear.

"That’s the beauty of how they play. They have their identity”.
