For the first time ever the Whites had players in the starting line-ups for each of the home nations.

Kalvin Phillips was given a second England start by Gareth Southgate, in a 3-0 friendly win over Wales, for whom Tyler Roberts started in attack.

Phillips had a solid outing in a central midfield role, completing 60 of his 64 passes and delivering a dangerous corner from which Danny Ings scored a delightful over-head kick.

Roberts had a bright performance, particularly in the first half before England took full control of the game.

In the European Championships play-offs, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper started for Northern Ireland and Scotland respectively in their games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israel.

Both of those games went to penalties, Northern Ireland drawing 1-1, the Scots finishing goalless with their visitors with Cooper hitting the post in the final minute.

Neither of the home nations had ever been involved in a competitive shootout

Dallas took and scored the first penalty en route to their 4-3 victory on spot-kicks and the Scots were also victorious, 5-3.

Northern Ireland will face Slovakia, who overcame the Republic of Ireland on penalties, in their play-off final, while Scotland take on Serbia for a place in next summer's tournament.

Elsewhere Leeds left winger Gjanni Alioski was involved in North Macedonia's play-off semi-final win over Kosovo and only Georgia stand in their way of a finals berth.
