Here's how Leeds United fans reacted to the news Elland Road is set to reopen to fans this season

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon to outline initial plans and key dates for a 'road map' out of the current national lockdown.

During the speech, he confirmed that elite sport stadiums will be able to host 10,000 fans, or a quarter of a full capacity - whichever is smaller - from May 17.

The Whites host West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the Premier League season - May 23.

The plans are subject to approval and the meeting of key criteria that will see restrictions slowly eased across the country over the next four months.

But that hasn't stopped Whites fans dreaming of a return to Elland Road.

Leeds fans have been locked out of the club's home ground since March 7 last year, and have had to watch on from afar as United play out their first Premier League campaign in 16 years behind closed doors.

Asked what they were most looking forward to about the potential return to the ground, fans had plenty to say to the YEP.

Darren Trafford said: "Everything. The whole experience of match day. Longest I've gone without getting to a game since my first in 74. I've done many years where I've social distanced in the crowd anyway."

Travelling fan Bjørn Hustoft said: "Waking up in the morning to realise that I am in Leeds, eating English breakfast and going out for a beer. Than moving up to Church and just feel the atmosphere, cant wait."

Christopher Howling, another travelling fan, said: "Check in at Clayton’s Hotel, couple of pints in the Pavillion, raising a glass to an absent friend, taking our place in the Norman Hunter Stand, savouring the moment, a night on Greek Street - The Liquorist. Bring it on please."

Other fans were more sceptical about getting a ticket given the reduced capacity.

John McGill said: "Struggled to get a ticket prior to lockdown at full stadium capacity."

And Anthony Richardson said: "Be lucky to get a ticket I'd say."

Rebecca Brown said simply: "The noise."

Alister Deans added: "Pub - match - pub."

We also asked fans to use three words about how they felt about returning to Elland Road for the final game of the season.

Andrew James Crowther summed up with a worthy statement: "Choose local care workers."

Stephen Richard Knowles said: "Make some noise."

But Barbara Wright said: "Not too sure."

And Dee Dale added: "Not gonna happen!"

Charlie Smith said: "Next Season Amazing."

RobnGem Duffield added: "Can't get tickets."

Paul Hardwick said: "We shall see."

And Shaff Khaliq went one word over the limit, but we'll let him off.

He said: "Anyone got a spare."
