The Elland Road forward has been in inspired form so far this season, and has hit eight goals in 11 outings in the Premier League, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa and strikes against big guns Liverpool and Chelsea.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy are the only English players to have scored more than Bamford in the top flight this term, with the latter announcing his retirement from the international game in 2018.

And Parlour has claimed that the Whites talisman could be in line for a first senior call-up if he continues to perform at the level he has so far this campaign.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Arsenal man said: “I thought he’d struggle in the Premier League this year, it’s a big step up from the Championship.

“But he’s proven everybody wrong and it’s great to see.”

Host Alan Brazil replied: “When they [Leeds] missed out two seasons ago, I’m not saying he got the blame, but they dominated so much and missed so many chances.

“That’s why people felt they didn’t have the firepower, but he’s proven people wrong.”

Parlour added: “He’s at a good age now, 27, so he’s got a good few years in front of him,” Parlour added. “He’ll be pushing for that England space.

“If he can keep playing the way he is, I’m sure Gareth will be looking at him as well.”

Bamford’s only international experience to date came at U21 level, winning two caps for England – the most recent of which was in 2014.
