Gary McAllister's time at Elland Road is fondly remembered most for the role he played in helping the club to the 1991-92 First Division title.

The Scot was a key part of the four in midfield under Howard Wilkinson as he lined up alongside Gordon Strachan, Gary Speed and David Batty.

McAllister made 294 appearances across six years for the club in total, scoring 45 goals. He also returned for a spell as head coach for a short time in 2008, as his Leeds side lost a League One play-off final at Wembley to Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers.

McAllister will hold a place in the heart of United fans forever after his role in bringing glory to West Yorkshire, and here the Leeds faithful pay tribute to a former Elland Road great.

Dave Pearson: "He was a one man team for Leicester the season we got promoted and I remember how excited I was when we signed him. I am too young to remember the 70s greats so Gary is in my all time 11 of players I’ve watched live at Leeds."

Andy Gray: "Scored an absolute cracker against Notts County away. Also, he used to take up weird positions on the pitch to receive the ball to confuse the opposition. I’ve never seen a player do this before or since with such effect."

Dave Palfreeman: "His Elland Road free kicks and penalties. He was unbelievable at set plays."

Stephen Fennell: "Great all round guy on and off the field. Exceptional talent."

Jason Penn: "A free-kick against Arsenal in the FA Cup at Elland Road, it was a night game and we lost 2-1 but, wow, what a goal."

Tom Cull: "Remember meeting him and David Batty during pre-season 1992 at an open training session. Part of probably our best midfield four along with Strachan and Speed."

Jason: "I just absolutely loved him. As a teenager I can just remember him as an elegant leader who ran games effortlessly from midfield. He was underrated as a player. If he played in today's Premier League people would rave about him every week. A technical player ahead of his time."

John Dye: "Cried my eyes out when he kissed and showed off the First Division title on the town hall in '92."

Patrick Smith: "Him throwing his shirt to the fans at Nottingham Forest away, the last match 90/91 season. My mate Dave has it framed and signed. We were singing ‘We’ll win the league next year’. Indeed we did!"

Morten Smedsdal: "A wonderful player. Leeds legend in my eyes."

Neil Macklin: "The goal he scored against Leicester. Huge relief around the stadium after that."
