Here, we run through United’s current injuries list in full and who is expected to be back and when. Leeds concluded their mid-season break friendlies with Wednesday night’s 4-2 defat at home to Monaco on the back of a 2-1 win at home to Real Sociedad and 2-1 triumph against Elche in Spain. Leeds also beat Preston North End in a friendly played behind closed doors.
After six and a half weeks off, the Whites will finally return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with the visit of Pep Guardiola’s defending champions and odds-on title favourites City in an 8pm kick-off at Elland Road.
7. Crysencio Summerville (ankle)
Rapidly rising young winger star Summerville suffered an ankle injury in the early stages of the friendly against Elche which forced him off and the 21-year-old has not featured since. Marsch, though, gave a positive update about Summerville at Thursday's pre-match press conference, suggesting he could be back to face City. Marsch said: "He was on the pitch today and he should be in training as well this week." Photo: George Wood
8. Rodrigo (hamstring)
United's record signing and clear leading marksman at present took part in Tuesday's open training session but was then missing completely the following night against Monaco. Marsch said the Spaniard sat the game out as a precaution due to feeling tightness in his hamstring but was hopeful that the striker would be back to face City. Marsch said: "Rodrigo was scheduled to train to play in the match up until the afternoon of the match and then we just felt like he was feeling a little bit of a tightness in his hamstring. So we decided to hold him up." The forward was not listed by Marsch as one of the players who would be out. Photo: Jan Kruger
9. Patrick Bamford (groin/sickness)
Bamford had minor groin surgery in Munich at the start of the month and was expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight. The striker was not seen at Tuesday's Elland Road open training session and played no part against Monaco but Marsch said the forward was one of those hit by sickness which has delayed his comeback. Marsch said: "When he got sick, I think it disrupted a little bit his return into training, but we expect that he'll be back in training as well. Then it'll be can we get him up to speed for the Man City match but we expect him to be back in training." Photo: Eddie Keogh
10. And not forgetting....Tyler Adams (suspended)
One other huge definite absentee against City will be midfield lynchpin Tyler Adams who is suspended and serving a one-match ban for his dismissal after a second yellow card in the defeat at Tottenham before the World Cup break. Adams also suffered a calf injury in the USA's final World Cup game against the Netherlands but says he is over that and will be back ready for the New Year's Eve trip to Newcastle United. Youngsters Archie Gray and Sonny Perkins also played no part against Monaco but the duo were not listed among the injuries by Marsch. Marsch revealed at the start of November that Gray had an ankle injury and was looking at six to eight weeks out. Photo: Justin Setterfield
