New club captain Ampadu suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s 3-0 win at home to Coventry City and Farke revealed at Monday’s pre-match press conference that the midfielder had damaged his lateral ligament and would likely not be available until January.

Summer signing Ao Tanaka replaced Ampadu as he went off injured in the weekend’s win against the Sky Blues and the Japanese international midfielder now makes his full debut for the only change to the team, partnering Ilia Gruev in the middle of the park.

Farke also revealed at his pre-match press conference that defender Max Wober was set to have knee surgery for meniscus repair and that he was facing six weeks out.

Amid the absentees, youngsters Sam Chambers and Charlie Crew have been called up to the squad and both make the bench in addition to fellow youngster James Debayo.

Pascal Struijk wears the captain’s armband in Ampadu’s absence.
