Whites Academy graduate and former Rossett School pupil Kitching had two loan spells at Harrogate Town during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with the defender helping Simon Weaver's side to promotion from the National League to League Two.

Kitching then ended his association with the Whites when signing for Forest Green Rovers in July 2019 and the left-sided centre-back has now stepped up two more divisions by signing for Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

Whites youngsters Ryan Edmondson, Oliver Casey and Bryce Hosannah were among those to congratulate 21-year-old Kitching on his move on social media.

Speaking to iFollow Barnsley, Kitching said: “I’m delighted.

"When the move came about I didn’t think twice about it.

"It’s a massive club and to move up from League Two to the Championship and get back home up north, I’m just excited for the challenge.”

Kitching has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Tykes and joins up with former Whites team mates Clark Oduor and Aapo Halme as well as Alex Mowatt.
