White has departed England’s training base due to personal reasons and is expected to remain in the U.K. for the remainder of the tournament, a statement by the Football Association revealed this week.
"Ben White has left England’s training base in Al Wakrah and returned home for personal reasons. The Arsenal defender is not expected to return to the squad for the remainder of the tournament. We ask that the player’s privacy is respected at this moment in time,” it read.

Hide AdThe former Leeds United defender was named on the substitutes’ bench during each of England’s two opening Group B fixtures at the FIFA World Cup, but was omitted from Gareth Southgate’s selection during the Three Lions’ 3-0 victory over Wales which helped top the group.


No further information has been provided by the FA, however White’s club side Arsenal shared an update on Wednesday which said: “We’re all with you, Ben.” The 25-year-old has earned four caps for his country, all of which have been in international friendlies. He was selected in Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad last summer but did not feature off the bench. White’s most recent England outing came in the friendly win over Cote d’Ivoire back in March.
