Ex Whites attacker Harry Kewell was delighted with the 20-year-old, who scored in the 84th and 93rd minutes to give the Latics a 3-1 win in the EFL Trophy and maintain their 100 per cent record in the competition this season.

McCalmont is on loan for the season at Boundary Park and had been handed five League Two appearances and an FA Cup debut by Kewell, before the Bantams clash at Valley Parade.

With the score locked at 1-1 McCalmont was played into the box and finished calmly to put his side ahead, before receiving a Davis Keillor-Dunn pass in the area and sidefoot in his second in time added on.

"Perfect for Alfie," said Kewell.

"It was great he got two goals, I thought he was superb tonight."

McCalmont signed a new contract with Leeds this summer but was one of a number of players who wanted to go out on loan this season to get experience of men's football. He was due to face fellow Whites Under 23s prospect Bryce Hosannah last night, but the Bradford loanee was ruled out with a slight hamstring issue.
