Former England international and pundit Karen Carney has suggested that Leeds United wouldn't have been promoted to the Premier League if it wasn't for the COVID-19 enforced break last season.

“They [Leeds] outrun everyone and credit to them,” Carney explained on Amazon Prime. “My only concern would be, will they blow up at the end of the season?

"And I actually think they only got promoted because of COVID, in terms of it gave them a bit of respite.

"I don’t know whether they would have got up if they didn’t have that break.”

@LeedsInShetland: “Won 5 games on the trot before lockdown, clean sheets too iirc? Truly appalling punditry. Sent her an invitation, when possible, for her to watch those 5 games pre lockdown, and the games after for the 10 point gap win of the league. Treat her to a meal, to digest the facts well.”

@footybrasileiro: “Who knows what would have happened. Leeds kept blowing it year after year, no one can deny that. At the end of the day Leeds deserved to win the Championship as they were the best team. Simple.”

@Robjkas10: “What has that even got to do with this season? That’s what I don’t get!! Why not give us credit for what we are doing instead of trying to knock us at every opportunity.”
