The AZ Alkmaar striker hit the headlines over the final international break of 2025 after he scored twice in his side’s 2-0 win against Portugal before going one better with a stunning hat-trick in a 3-2 victory in Hungary that ensured Ireland claimed a place in the World Cup play-offs.

Parrott’s side looked to be heading for disappointment as they were being held to a draw in Budapest - but the 23-year-old had one last moment of magic as he completed his hat-trick deep in injury-time to make it ten goals in 33 international appearances and set up a play-off semi-final with Czechia in the new year.

Reflecting on his hat-trick heroics, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker told BBC Sport: "How many times I have watched it back? Probably about 500 times - every time I go on to my phone, it's there. Even last night when I got to bed, I couldn't sleep imagining it over and over and over again.

"In general, I'm not really an emotional person, it's the first time I've cried in years. Look I can sit here and try to describe it, but it is the first time I've felt something like that. I've scored goals before but none as meaningful as my last one against Hungary. As a country we've had a lot of disappointing results and haven't given the fans a lot to cheer about, so this was tears of joy."

Parrott’s heroics have reportedly captured the attention of several Premier League clubs and Leeds, West Ham United, Fulham and Everton have all been suggested as possible suitors for his signature during the January transfer window. Reports in the Netherlands have stated AZ could demand a club record £26m fee for the striker - and journalist Romano has delivered an update on the pursuit to sign a player at the heart of one of the most remarkable moments of the recent international break.

He told GiveMeSport: “He’s attracting interest, of course, at the moment, nothing more than calls to enquire about his situation. But this could be an interesting one soon.”
