England's Under-19s clash with Scotland was abandoned on Thursday afternoon in line with COVID-19 protocols, the Football Association have confirmed.

Leeds United youngsters Charlie Cresswell and Sam Greenwood both started the game at St George's Park - with the former getting on the scoresheet - while winger Stuart McKinstry was named on the bench for the visitors.

Whites forward Joe Gelhardt was also named in the England squad ahead of the international break, but it is unclear whether he linked up with the national team's training camp after limping off against Middlesbrough last week.

Reports have emerged claiming that the game was halted by match officials moments before the interval with the Three Lions leading 3-1 after a member of non-playing staff received a positive test for coronavirus.

A joint statement from the English and Scottish FA said: "England Under-19s' match with Scotland at St. George's Park this afternoon was abandoned in the first half as a precaution in line with COVID-19 protocols.

"We are not in a position to comment further at this time."

The two sides were due to meet again on Sunday afternoon in an international double header.
