Coun Jonathan Pryor, the Leeds City Council executive member for learning, skills and employment, commended Bamford's gesture, which funded 20 new iPads to boost remote learning for pupils.

The Premier League goalscorer read a report into the lack of access to remote learning for families in Beeston and the struggle to afford the necessary technology, so got in touch with the school to find out how he could help. After learning how many of the school's children were struggling to engage with education during lockdown, Bamford donated the cash so the school could purchase technology that will now be loaned out to families, and recorded a special video message to help inspire pupils.

“We are blown away by Patrick’s generosity," said deputy head teacher Bethan Tidey.

"The past year has been incredibly difficult for families, in particular those struggling to access remote learning at home. This incredible donation has allowed us to buy 20 new iPads which will be loaned to those most in need. This will greatly improve the home learning experience for some of our most vulnerable children and will also be a fantastic addition to the school when children are eventually back in classrooms.

"We want to say a huge thank you to Patrick for shining a light in these dark times, it will not be forgotten.”

Coun Pryor added: "This is a very generous gesture by Patrick and it’s fantastic to hear about something so positive happening in very challenging times. It makes me incredibly proud to see Leeds continuing to pull together.”
