Tyler Roberts insists Leeds United will continue to take it game by game despite suggestions Premier League safety is close.

The Whites moved into the top half with a 3-0 victory over Southampton at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

With the win Leeds moved onto 35 points for the season and now sit 13 points clear of 18th-placed Fulham - who occupy the final spot in the drop zone - with 13 games remaining.

Leeds players have been clear in their goal of retaining top flight status this term after promotion from the Championship last summer.

Safety, though, looks all but secure for the Whites after a fine debut campaign back in England's first division under head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

"To be fair I've not heard that once in the dressing room," Roberts said of reaching the 35-point mark.

"The boys have literally just been going game by game. That's how we've taken it. It's our first time in the Premier League and each game is a massive challenge for us.

"It's good to bounce back [against Southampton] after the last few results. The boys worked hard and we deserved it.

"It was evenly matched. They caused us a lot of problems and we caused them problems. In the second half I think the boys went up a gear. It really showed that and we deserved the win."

Asked about his second successive start and assist for Patrick Bamford against the Saints, he added: "It helps massively. Fitness wise and if I can keep getting starts I will only get stronger.

"I felt better today [against Southampton] and more fit. Hopefully I can keep going. Me and Pat [Bamford] have got a good understanding. If I am on the half turn and he's running in behind I know that the ball is always on.

"It was good for me to get it through and to be fair he still had a lot to do - it was a great finish. I'm disappointed in myself not to hit the back of the net as well. I go again and hopefully in the next game it'll be the one."
