Spanish international centre-back Llorente came through his seventh full game in a row and proved a rock at the back as Marcelo Bielsa's Whites left the Etihad with a 2-1 victory despite playing over half the game with ten men.

United looked to be facing a mountainous task after captain Liam Cooper was sent off in first half stoppage time but Leeds dug in against Pep Guardiola's runaway leaders and even hit back with a 91st-minute winner from Stuart Dallas.

Dallas had initially fired Leeds ahead four minutes before the break but City looked set to take at least a point after Ferran Torres had fired home a 76th-minute leveller.

"Solidarity, effort and sacrifice," said Llorente, writing on social media.

"Knowing how to suffer as a team with one less until the end deserves the three points we took off a stadium where it is very difficult to win. Great job!

"Congratulations to our box to box (midfielder) Stuart Dallas for the two goals!!!"

United's England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips was also among those to take to social media to say: "WHAT A WIN!! Fought hard to bring those three points home today!

"Unbelievable performance from the team, absolutely buzzing for Stuart Dallas."
