England international midfielder Grealish was forced to miss Sunday's 2-1 loss at home Leicester City amidst reports that the 25-year-old had suffered a setback in training, believed to be a shin injury.

Reports then suggested that Grealish was looking at around a month out but Villa boss Smith said at the weekend that he could not provide a specific time frame and still held hopes that the midfielder could feature in Saturday evening's clash at Elland Road.

But speaking at his Friday morning pre-match press conference, Smith revealed that Grealish would miss the trip to West Yorkshire, joining Matty Cash, Kortney Hause and Wesley on the sidelines.

"He won't be ready for tomorrow," said Smith of Grealish.

"He had some discomfort, so he went to the see the doctor and they decided that he needed a period of rest.

"I believe that he's very close to being pain free."

Providing an update on Cash, Hause and Wesley, Smith added: “Matty Cash is back on the training pitches running, we’ll be guided by the medical department on when he joins in with us.

“Kortney Hause is due to be back on the grass next week, and Wesley should be back in full contact training in the next week or two.”
