Leeds United transfer news: Deal agreed for summer transfer, Newcastle hijack Whites free agent raid

It looks as if Rafa Mujica’s Leeds career could be over before it’s even begun.

The young Spanish forward is yet to make a senior appearance for the Whites, and has instead spent most of time out on loan since signing from Barcelona in 2019.

His latest stint away from Elland Road has taken him to hometown club Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, and it would appear that the 22-year-old is making quite the impact.

Mujica scored on his very first start for his new club, and according to Las Palmas’ president, the La Liga 2 side have made a move to turn his loan deal into a permanent one.

In a statement cited by Spanish publication Sport, said: “There’s an agreement in which UD Las Palmas can extend the contract beyond June 30th. If his performance continues as it’s been going, he must continue here.”

Mujica’s full debut goal remains his only one since signing for Las Palmas, but in recent weeks he has played his way into the starting XI, and it’s clear that he is making a much larger impact in the Spanish second tier than he could have ever hoped to in the Premier League.

A permanent move makes a lot of sense for all parties, and it just remains to be seen how much substance there is in this latest update.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has reported that Newcastle United have hijacked Leeds’ move to sign promising RB Leipzig defender Matthew Bondswell.

The 18-year-old recently reached an agreement to cancel his contract in Germany after two-and-a-half years on the continent, and was said to be the subject of interest from the Whites and their Premier League rivals West Ham.

But it is now understood that the Magpies have reached an agreement to take the left-back to the north east instead.

The teenager failed to make any senior appearances for Leipzig, but did impress during a recent loan spell with Dutch second tier side FC Dordrecht.

Bondswell is also an experience England youth international.
