Leeds United manager Daniel Farke hosts his first press conference of the season this afternoon at Thorp Arch. He is speaking to the media from 1:15pm.

Whites’ boss Farke will face the media in an official pre-match capacity for the first time today as Leeds gear up to face Erol Bulut’s Cardiff City side on Sunday.

While the new campaign kicks off this evening with freshly-relegated Southampton up against newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds must wait a further two days to get their 2023/24 season underway.

Farke is expected to field questions on the fitness of key players such as Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter who picked up knocks in the friendly win over Heart of Midlothian last weekend, whilst also providing a broader overview of the transfer picture at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke press conference LIVE: Leeds boss speaks ahead of Cardiff opener

“The group at the moment on the training pitch is not overly big, we’ve just trained with 16 players today it’s not perfect when you want to be ambitious, but as long as these 16 players are tight together & work unbelievably hard, you have always a chance.”

“We are in talks. He had a really good pre-season. We are in talks with his agent.”

“We are working hard [on transfers]. Thankfully Darlow came in in the goalkeeper position, but in all areas we need additions. At centre-back, full-back, physicality in midfield, creativity in midfield, firepower in attack.”

Farke on injuries [continued]

“Joseph rolled his ankle in training on Tuesday. He was on crutches yesterday, but looks better than it was two days ago. He will miss the next three to four weeks.”

“Sadly, we have had during the last week some injures. Bamford won’t return before the first international break. Rutter looks slightly better. Core injury, but miss Sunday and next cup game. Hopefully return as quick as possible.”

“First game is always exciting. First game at ER even more exciting. Atmosphere always great, especially first game after the break.”
